Satsuki Shibuya
Satsuki Shibuya had it all: her own graphic design business, good money, and great clients.
But she was deeply unhappy. “Nothing was ever, ever feeling at peace. I couldn’t take a breath. I was sinking.” She felt anxious, depleted, and stressed. She couldn’t sleep.
Satsuki wanted to stop but there were deadlines to meet, new projects to start, and bills to pay.
So the universe stopped things for her.
One day, without any warning, Satsuki woke up sick. So sick she couldn’t get out of bed, watch tv, or read a book. So sick she couldn’t cook a meal or carry on a conversation.
And she stayed sick for a year and a half.
During that time Satsuki lost all that she’d built: her business, her reputation, and her financial security.
But, during that same time, Satsuki found something bigger than all of that. She found painting.
And her life changed.
For the first time since childhood, Satsuki was home. Through watercolor, Satsuki could express everything that mattered: her essence, her values, her love.
Within two months Satsuki shared her first watercolor painting online.
Now Satsuki has 33.5K Instagram followers, the work on her website is almost always sold out, and her book’s Kickstarter campaign was 133% funded.
Satsuki always knew she had a calling. It just took a lot to find it: sickness, time, persistence, and courage. But she did. And it’s everything Satsuki is: honest, beautiful, wise, and full of love.
Some things we talk about…
- being bullied and shamed as a young girl
- abandoning herself for “success”
- losing success and finding herself
- starting and growing her business as a writer and a watercolorist
“When I felt and saw watercolor it was this deeper knowing. It felt like I could do no wrong. Everything that was coming out on the paper was just beautiful to me. And that’s how I knew, ‘This is it.'”
“The purpose of my work is to be a catalyst for harmony, peace, and love. That’s the basis of it. But if I were to dig a little deeper, it’s to raise the consciousness of individuals. To help support others find their true essence.”
