tracee stanley
i interviewed tracee stanley because she wrote Radiant Rest: Yoga Nidra for Deep Relaxation and Awakened Clarity and i wanted to be in conversation with a teacher about rest and how we can slow our bodies in such a fast moving world. but i also interviewed tracee because every time i heard a conversation with her i felt the depth of her practice, the wisdom and devotion. i wanted to be in conversation with someone who so clearly teaches what she lives, who embodies the heart and soul of her work.
tracee is also the author of The Luminous Self: Sacred Yogic Practices & Rituals to Remember Who You Are (shambhala publications). she is the founder of empowered life circle, a sacred community and portal of practices, rituals, and tantric teachings inspired by more than 28 years of studentship in sri vidya tantra and the teachings of the himalayan masters. as a post-lineage teacher, tracee is devoted to sharing the wisdom of yoga nidra, rest, meditation, self-inquiry, nature as a teacher, and ancestor reverence. she holds certificates from pacifica graduate institute in advanced eco-therapy, new thinking, best practices, and emerging modalities and a certificate in advanced ecopsychology. tracee is gifted in illuminating the magic and power found in liminal space and weaving devotion and practice into daily life.
this conversation changed the way i move through my day. it changed my perception of rest. it taught me how essential rest is not just to nourishing our body but to caring for our world.
this is one of those conversations that can alter you forever.
Some things we explore…
• the concept of deep, intentional rest beyond mere sleep
• the societal perceptions that undermine the value of rest
• the notion that many of us are collectively exhausted and often unsure how to genuinely rest
• the challenges of overcoming ingrained feelings of unworthiness, shame, and the pull towards constant productivity
• the significance of sacred practices, the wisdom of ancient traditions, and the transformative potential of truly embracing rest.
• the importance of stepping into one’s power through rest and
• exploring the true teachers of deep rest, the goddess, and the state of consciousness
“mostly we don’t feel worthy of rest. most of us don’t have any role models that taught us the worth of rest. it was more the kind of story ‘you’ll rest when you’re dead,’ or ‘you haven’t worked hard enough yet to be able to rest.'”
“some of our ancestors lives may have been in danger if they were caught resting. if they were people who were enslaved, or people who were persecuted and running from one country to another to try to find freedom. there was no time to rest. and we have that in our DNA.”
