Liz Tran
We all want to feel safe but most of us don’t.
We don’t feel safe because of what happened when we were little or as we got older. Because of responsibilities and competition and never quite feeling like we belong.
Which makes us anxious.
When Liz Tran was little she didn’t feel safe. There was divorce and school and trauma. Liz struggled with anxiety – panic attacks, fear of leaving the house, depression.
But art was where Liz felt safe.
“Art was my safe space where I could have control over everything. It was creating my own little world that was not as scary as the actual world.”
It’s not uncommon to hear people describe art as a refuge. Art is something we can disappear into. It catches us without judgment, demands, or expectations. It lets us be who we are as we are.
Despite Liz’s crippling anxiety, art gave her freedom. Today her art is about extroversion, experimentation and play. Her work is in exhibits from Toronto to Miami, San Francisco to Iceland, her paintings adorn gallery walls, museums, and the homes of private collectors.
Liz has created success. Not just financial success, but freedom. To make what she wants, live as she pleases, and to find safety whenever she needs it.

“I can’t go more than a week or two without creating something. I become incredibly depressed. It’s my identity. It’s who I am. It always needs to be there.”
“Don’t be afraid to fuck up, don’t be afraid to ruin a piece. Just don’t be precious about your work. Be free with it. Trust yourself.”
