Sonal Nathwani
Sonal used to put artists on a pedestal.
She made art for 17 years before she called herself an artist even though people were buying her art and paying her to teach them how to make art.
She struggled with perfectionism. She tried to master every piece. Her art was never good enough.
But Sonal is older now, old enough to know that the opinions of others are just that: opinions. No weightier than your own. No smarter, better, or more right than anything you already know.
Now Sonal makes art full-time and she’s very successful at it. She makes what she loves and she shares that with the world. And the world loves it.
If you struggle with perfectionism, if you’re scared to share your stuff, if you think you’re not good enough, listen to Sonal. She’ll remind you that you’re already there and you’re better than you realize.
Some things we talk about…
- ditching perfectionism for imperfect beauty
- traveling the world and learning the truth about people, everywhere
- creating, sharing, and selling art
- becoming your own person, your own artist, and making what you truly love
“Now I’m really at a place where I am painting as I am, as me. It doesn’t really matter anymore. There is no such thing as perfection and there shouldn’t be. The wobbly bits make things interesting.”
“It didn’t matter because there was no preciousness involved. That’s a big block for creatives: that you have to make something with all your beautiful art materials and it has to be something. But it doesn’t have to be anything, you just put color on the paper.”
